After our last posting about the Moots cross bike, we started thinking about why we love Moots so much and thought we'd follow up with a little background on the brand for those that might not know much about America's premiere builder of titanium frames, here’s a little bit about why we love the brand and the bikes so much.

What started in the back of a Steamboat Springs bike shop in 1981 and built a following for constant innovation, has evolved into the world’s best titanium frame building shop. After over 25 years of refining of their craft Moots now steadily turn out 15 different models from a green-built production shop in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. While company founder Kent Erickson started with steel, the brand moved into titanium and started to develop the dedicated following they enjoy today in the early 1990’s. Now any Moots that comes out the door of the shop on Copper Ridge Drive (they make 15 different road, tri, mountain, cross and commuter models) is made from premium aerospace grade American titanium.

Pick up any Moots frame and you’ll see consistent, purposeful welds and slightly oversized tubes that have been ever so slightly swaged and shaped to boost performance. Every seat binder, cable stop and cantilever boss on a Moots has the same crisp, high quality feel. It’s clear that, while they don't dazzle with flashy paint or questionable innovations (you’ll never see a rubber insert in the seatstay of a Moots), the brand dives in deep on each frame to makes it a frame that’ll be your best riding partner for a lifetime.

While not every Moots we sell is custom, the team in Steamboat offers anything they do as a full custom frame for a small upcharge. Whether it's a cross frame with a geometry tuned for flat bars, a road bike with an ultra-short top-tube or a custom frame built just for the Iditabike that has been designed to hold camp stove fuel in the downtube (yes, they’ve done it), you absolutely can have it your way with Moots.

Give us a call to talk about your lifetime Moots, and, if you’re going to be close to Steamboat Springs, we’ll set up an appointment for you to pick up your new frame right from the factory.

AC Jr's Get Their FOCUS On!

Look out NorCal cross racers, the kids on the AC junior cyclo-cross squad took delivery of their FOCUS Mares cross rigs on Friday. XC National Champion Spence Peterson shown in the photo above will be a force to be dealt with.

Thanks to Scott, Jeff and the team at FOCUS USA for helping out with the bikes. Before too long, we should be swapping to Edge Composites wheels--another great sponsor.

Now we just need to take delivery of the new Vermarc team clothing (Hey, Brian......any news?) and load up the Sprinter with all the supplies necessary for a robust weekend of cross racing.

Stay tuned for more updates as summer turns to fall.

New Moots Psychlo-X Build; The Only Cross Bike You'll Ever Need

It's always a good day here at the shop when we build up a new Moots. Maybe that's because they're always completely flawless and, let's face it, a Moots is kind of the Porsche 911 of bikes: ultra high performance, doesn't follow trends, keeps the same general look and feel year after year, everyone wants to own at least one of them at some point.

Hard not to just deck this thing out with the best parts we could find: Edge Composites fork, Chris King headset, SRAM Force drivetrain with cyclo-cross rings, TRP Magnesium brakes, Edge 38 wheels (with DT Swiss 190 hubs), TUFO, Crank Brothers 4Ti pedals and of course a Moots stem and post.

By the way, this 54-ish sized Moots doesn't have an owner. Give Woody or Chad a call at the shop to find out more about sizing and how we can tweak the specification to fit your needs.
